LTD 2023 plan your hike

Your Long Trail Day Hike

Join us on October 7 to celebrate the trails and the funds you have raised to maintain and protect them. Meet us at Barnes Camp for free snacks and drinks from our partners and to join guided group hikes. GMC section volunteers will be holding hikes and trail magic all over the state, as well – so hit your favorite trail and enjoy the Long Trail Day spirit!

If you can't join the October 7 festivities, you can celebrate with your own hike. Whether you are planning a one minute, one hour or one day hike, the Green Mountain Club has you covered. Visit our website or visitor center on Route 100 in Waterbury Center for hiking recommendations and the information you need to plan your Long Trail Day hike.

Groups

Planning to hike with a group of friends or family?  Wonderful!  We hope you enjoy your time in the outdoors together.  Please be aware that hiking groups have an increased impact on the land and on other hikers’ backcountry experience. In order to lessen these impacts, please follow these guidelines:

  • Day hike group size should be limited to 10 people in alpine zone summits, designated wilderness areas, and around fragile pond shorelines.
  • For day hikes in other areas, limit group size to 20.
  • Always follow Leave No Trace principles.

Looking for a group to hike with?  GMC volunteers will be hosting guided day hikes, which you can sign up for here. Hikes are free with an option to donate; all donations will go towards Long Trail Day. GMC Sections are hosting a number of guided hikes up and down the state, locations and rsvp instructions pending. You can also join our Facebook group after you register and look for other folks to hike with there.
