Please check out my Long Trail Day page which supports the mission of the Green Mountain Club and is dedicated to Norm Johnson
Dear family and friends,
On August 28th, I will be hiking a portion of the Long Trail to support the Green Mountain Club, whose mission is to protect and maintain the Long Trail System and foster the stewardship of Vermont's hiking trails and mountains through education.
I had a dear friend, who after finishing the Long Trail, asked "Who would like to hike the Appalachian Trail?" I impetuously raised my hand. Thus began a quest that has continued to inspire and shape me and led me to volunteering with the GMC. My friend, Slojo (and yes, he lived up to his name) managed to finish the AT just months before succumbing to cancer. I eventually did complete the sections we had not hiked together, but only because I felt his spirit guiding me and his voice, like the wind, whispering in my ear..."You can do this!"
I dedicate the page to Slojo aka Norm Johnson. His love of hiking and for these Vermont mountains was infectious and joyous. As I needed Slojo as my muse, these beloved mountains and trails need you. As the outdoors has provided respite and solace these past 18 months, it has also seen unprecedented use and erosion. Now it is our time to give back to that which has nurtured us. Please give generously. We CAN do this together!
