Maintaining & Protecting Vermont's Long Trail Since 1910

Gift Opportunities

The Green Mountain Club's business model remains unchanged after a century: to maintain and protect a world-class hiking trail and give it away for free, trusting that enough people will choose to "give something back to the trail".

Thanks for your interest in supporting Green Mountain Club!  There are many ways to make a charitable contribution.  Whatever your gift, we will steward your dollars as carefully as we steward the Long Trail.

Ridgeline Society

Ridgeline Society members make an extraordinary impact on the Green Mountain Club's ability to maintain and protect the Long Trail by contributing $1,000 or more to our Annual Fund. Learn more about the Ridgeline Society

Long Trail Legacy Society

What legacy will you leave for future generations? By making a bequest, a life-income gift such as a charitable gift annuity, or other type of planned gift to the Green Mountain Club, members of the Long Trail Legacy Society are ensuring that the Long Trail will benefit from their generosity long after they pass away.  Think of the legacy society as GMC’s “Afterlife Membership”!  View members and learn more about the Long Trail Legacy Society.

Gifts of Stock/Securities

For some donors, giving appreciated stock to GMC may be preferable to giving cash. When you give appreciated securities, not only do you receive an income tax deduction equal to the market value of the securities, but you also avoid capital gains taxes on the transfer.  For instructions on transfering stock/securities to GMC, contact our Development office at 802-241-8322 or gmc@greenmountainclub.org.

Vehicle Donations

The Green Mountain Club is always looking for donated vehicles to transport Field Assistants, Long Trail Patrol (trail crew) and equipment into the field throughout the season. We’re interested in all vehicles – pickup trucks, vans, and cars. Your donated vehicle will help our field staff do their work, and you can also claim a tax deduction of the vehicle’s fair market value (more information from the IRS can be found here). If you are interested in donating your used vehicle to the club, please contact Dave Hardy, Director of Trail Programs for more information: dhardy@greenmountainclub.org or 802-241-8320.

Matching Gifts

Many businesses match employee contributions dollar-for-dollar.  This is a great way to double your gift to the Long Trail!  Please contact your human resources department to find out if your company matches employee contributions.

Workplace Giving

Does your employer offer opportunities to make contributions at work through payroll deductions?  The Green Mountain Club participates in EarthShare New England's workplace giving campaigns (similar to United Way campaigns but with an environmental focus).
